Every
Peekaboo
Pouch comes with a detailed instructional
brochure explaining and showing step by step how to wear
in various postions.
Q:
Since you mention that the sling's stretch a bit,
is it going to stretch too much after extended use or
after I lose some post-pregnancy weight?
A: No. The "stretch" happens while you
are carrying your baby. His/her weight will settle into
place as you walk around and the sling begins to conform
to your baby. Then it will feel like the sling has "stretched"
out a bit while you are carrying him. This is what I mean
by stretching - yet it still feels snug at first every
time you put the baby in. Extended wear will not permanently
stretch your sling. Even after washing, the sling will
maintain it's initial snug fit.
Q: Is
the sling adjustable as my baby gets bigger?
A: It isn't adjustable and really the wonderful
news is that you won't need it to be. The sling is sized
to fit you and can snugly hold a newborn or toddler. I
have used the same sling to cradle my baby (when she was
younger) and hold her now on the hip. What makes it possible
to do these positions securely is the slightly stretchy
fleece material and making sure it was a snug fit initially.
Q: Is
your sling similar to other sling pouch brands?
A: Yes, our sling is considered a pouch, native
or tube sling - these are some of the names used. Our
Hip Fleece Baby Sling is one piece of material with a
single extra strong reinforced serged seam piecing the
fleece together along a curved edge forming a "tube".
You then invert fold the tube in half to create a pouch
for your baby. You wear it sash-style across your torso,
with the sling's seam under your baby.
The difference between us and them: Most other pouch style
slings are made of cotton and do not have the secure stretchy
snug fit that our fleece ones have. Other fleece pouch
makers use a heavier 200 wt. fleece. This thicker fleece
makes the sling very warm and more bulky to handle. The
fleece we use is a loftier 100 wt. fleece or smooth microfleece.
Q:
Are the slings too hot?
A: I live in San Diego, and even on warm days
I use my fleece sling and my baby is happy. Our 100 wt
fleece slings provide warmth similar to a lightweight
sweater. Whether outside or in, fleece's natural wicking
properties keep moisture controlled. I've also lived in
Houston, Washington DC area, Chicago area, and the Bay
Area - and I'd say in most places it's not at all too
warm and actually ideal for year-round use. I love that
the Peekaboo Fleece Sling serves as a cozy layer of protection
from the sun and wind while still allowing air to circulate
through the fleece material. When carrying your baby inside
the sling's pouch completely and you are outside in very
high temperatures for a long period, ensure your child
is getting enough cool air circulating- as you would in
any high heat situation. I would dress my child in just
a onesie or t-shirt.
Q:
Can my cradled sleeping baby
breathe?
A: Air circulates freely through the porous fleece
material. You can test for yourself. So, yes, your baby
can breathe. I also make sure that my baby is cradled
on her back with her head facing up towards the ceiling.
Sometimes when I lay her in, she is positioned towards
me, so I carefully lean forward with her in the sling
(to give me some sling slack) and adjust her and the sling
until she is more on her back.
Q: How long will it
take to receive my order?
A: All in stock orders are shipped within 1-3 days
via US Priority Mail 2 day standard delivery anywhere
in the US. (For international orders, please see our ordering
page for more information.)
Q:
I've got my sling and I am not sure
if I am wearing the sling correctly when my child is on
my hip. (like where the seam is, etc..) Do you have any
additional tips on positioning the sling?
A: Overall when you wear the sling, do what works
for you - there are many different ways to securely position
the sling. I've listed some suggestions below, but mostly
practice with your sling and baby. That's the best way
to learn.
Positioning Tips: The seam should sit under your
baby's bottom when you have him on your hip. So if your
baby's is already sitting on your hip, you can put the
sling on while still holding your baby and slide the sling
completely over her and under her bottom and thighs. Your
baby's bottom should be sitting on the seam since it is
the strongest area of the sling.
If you put the sling on first, you might want to have
the seam more towards the middle of your body, then slide
baby through the sling and seat on the seam and then adjust
baby and sling to your hip. Once your child is seated
on the seam of the folded sling, and your child is too
squirmy, you can separate the sling's edges at your baby's
back and open the sling to create a deeper seat for him
to sit in. For instance, you can pull one edge up his
back all the way up his back - even to his neck and the
other down to the back of his knees or even tuck feet
in. Also, you can fold over the sling at your shoulder
- away from your neck to "tighten" the sling at your hip.
Sometimes if my daughter is tired and squirmy I sit her
sideways in front of me in the pouch. That way she can
nod off if necessary. She's 18 lbs and still loves to
sit-up sideways with her legs stretched out. Also some
babies like to sit kangaroo style with their legs crossed
Indian style facing forward looking out.
If your baby is cradled in the pouch pocket of the sling,
you can always adjust the sling and/or your baby by leaning
forward a little to let up some slack to allow you to
move the sling or your baby. Pull up each side of the
sling (especially the side against you) to create that
deep pocket.
Always finish adjusting by making sure the sling is spread
flat along your shoulder and around your back to help
it fit snugly and comfortably. Again, keep practicing;
soon your baby and you will fall in love with the sling.
